Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice

Oh, Zack Snyder. What have you done? I’m tempted to just leave my review at that. Batman V. Superman is a mess, and one with not a lot of redeeming qualities. The movie opens with a narration from Bruce Wayne, and he’s probably high when he’s saying whatever he said, because it makes less sense than Donald Trump trying to convince people he’s never insulted women. And then the movie takes off, at a pace of maybe 5 MPH, if I’m being generous. Envision your great-grandmother driving for the first time. Then imagine that she’s driving a car that has a maximum speed of about 2 MPH. That’s roughly equivalent to the pace of this movie. Wow. Where do I even begin? Superman’s actions are beginning to be questioned. Why now, and not immediately after the events of Man of Steel, you ask? Well, who knows? The writers certainly didn’t. Meanwhile, in Gotham City, Bruce Wayne decides to take matters into his own hands even though the government is probably slightly more equipped to do t

Man of Steel

After seven years, Superman made his triumphant and controversial return to theaters. And he split both fans and critics down the middle while doing it. I normally tend to jump on the hate bandwagon, but I actually like Man of Steel quite a bit. So the movie opens with the destruction of Krypton, which grabs the audience’s attention from the very start. Hans Zimmer’s glorious score blasts through the speakers, and the movie gets off to a solid start. Like every other Superman adaptation in recent memory (by this I mostly mean Smallville), Clark eventually sets out to discover what the heck is going on with him. His search leads him to the site of a crashed alien craft from Krypton, where he coincidentally runs into Lois Lane and is forced to expose his abilities. And so she sets out to find him and he sets out on a journey of self-discovery. Meanwhile, a rogue Kryptonian group led by General Zod shows up and demands that humanity hand over Sup

Rogue One

Walking into the theater for a Thursday night preview of Rogue One, I was excited but nervous, like every other Star Wars fanboy. We all knew we were walking into either the greatest movie ever, or the biggest disappointment since The Phantom Menace. Turns out we were wrong. What we actually got was something a bit more in the middle. Rogue One kicks off in glorious fashion. The opening minutes pull you in immediately, and you’re quickly caught up in the story. After the first 5 minutes, it’s clear that this is going to be a much darker Star Wars movie than we’re accustomed to. The title card (which, truthfully, is one of the worst I’ve ever seen) flashes onto the screen and the movie is off at a breakneck pace. It truly doesn’t stop. In tone, it may be most similar to The Empire Strikes Back, but in pace, it’s a lot closer to A New Hope or The Force Awakens. This makes for a delightful combination. We’re quickly introduced to the main characters. By quickly I do trul

Psych - Seasons 1-8

If you haven’t seen at least one episode of Psych in your lifetime, you’ve wasted your life. With a unique blend of murder, romance, childish comedy, non-childish comedy, and every other kind of comedy, Psych is a show quite unlike any other. The first time you watch an episode, you’ll probably think it’s one of the most weirdly intriguing shows you’ve ever seen. By the time you watch the last episode, you’ll probably melt into a puddle of pathetic nothingness, like I do every other day for no reason at all. Season one really manages to establish what to expect from the other seven. There’s a murder, Shawn and Gus show up, find a couple of leads that fail to pan out, spend most of their time screwing everything up and wasting their lives, and then save the day at the end thanks to Shawn’s observational skills. There’s usually a scene or two of Shawn arguing with his dad about something, and of course a couple scenes of him pursuing the (presumably) only female detective in t
